Approach to preventive medicine in geriatrics
The Geriatrics Course aims to provide practice knowledge related to the basis of the specialty. At the end of the Course, students will be able to understand general concepts in semeiology and methodology (anamnesis, clinical exam); epidemiology, etiology, physiopathology, diagnosis and therapy of the main diseases in the elderly. Moreover, students will learn skills on the knowledge of principal risk factors for diseases, the importance and indications of diagnostic exams, and the identification of appropriate interventions on lifestyle as well as pharmacological therapy to prevent and treat medical diseases, particularly referring to the most frequent cardiologic, respiratory, hepatic and metabolic pathologies observed in aged patients.
Students who successfully complete the course will be able
- to identify elderly patients’ health problems;
- to make initial physiopathologic and etiopathogenic hypothesis;
- to interpret the involvement and interaction of multiple organs and systems and different pathological events in unique clinical cases.
